How to ApplyApplications to attend the School must include:
Please use this application form. Please read the conditions for participation and the guidelines given below before filling out the form. The applications deadline is 21 November 2012 If necessary, use "N/A" for fields that are not applicable. Conditions for ParticipationThe basic aim of the School is to teach various aspects of high-energy physics, and especially theoretical physics, primarily to postgraduates in experimental particle physics, typically aged under thirty years and about one year from submitting their Ph.D. theses. However, a few Latin-American postdoctoral students in experimental high-energy physics, and also students in theoretical physics, working in particular in particle physics phenomenology, may be accepted, assuming their background knowledge in theoretical physics is of approximately the same level as the experimental Ph.D. students. This may include students working towards a Masters degree or equivalent qualification. Most of the students are expected to come from Latin-American countries, but the School is open to participants of all nationalities and typically about a quarter of those attending come from Europe and North America. Personal contacts and informal discussions among the participants during leisure time are an important aspect of the School. For this reason, participants are asked to note that they should not be accompanied by family members or friends. A small number of Peruvian students who would normally not qualify for the school may be accepted as "listeners", and such students should also fill in the application form. GuidelinesThe application form for the 2013 CERN – Latin-American School of High-Energy Physics should be completed and sent as soon as possible. The application includes a 100-word summary of the student's current work that will be taken into consideration in the selection process. The submission of the completed application form must be accompanied in parallel by a letter of reference and ranking from the student's professor or supervisor (signed and dated hard copy with letterhead of referee's institution). Applications without a reference letter will not be considered. The professor or supervisor's name and the date of the reference letter should be indicated in the appropriate boxes on the Web application form; and the letter should be sent to Kate Ross, the CERN Organizing Secretary (see Enquiries and Correspondence). The letter may be sent by fax or email, with the hard copy to follow by post. Please note that the letter of recommendation from the professor or supervisor should include a ranking of the candidate relative to other students at a similar stage in their careers. Candidates should ensure that their application form and the letter of reference reach the CERN Organizing Secretary by 21 November 2012. The selection of the students will be made by members of the International Organizing Committee together with the Local Director. All applicants will be informed in December whether or not they have been selected.
