Practical InformationDate and Place of the SchoolThe 18th European School of High-Energy Physics will be held from 20 June to 3 July in Raseborg, Finland, about 100 km west of Helsinki. The lectures and discussion sessions will take place in the Raseborg Institute, using the institute's modern conference facilities. The location of the Institute is indicated on this map.
The Institute has numerous sports and leisure facilities that will be available to the participants, including tennis and volley-ball courts, rowing boats, an indoor swimming pool, saunas and a gym. It is located on a very picturesque site beside a lake. There is a nature trail as well as walking and jogging routes.
General information on Raseborg (Raasepori in Finnish; Raseborg is the Swedish name) and the surrounding area can be found on the tourist-information website. The living-in-Finland guide, primarily intended for international students and trainees, provides a lot of useful information about Finland in general and includes a survival-vocabulary section. Other useful information can be found in the web pages of the Centre for International Mobility, CIMO. You may view the slideshow Raseborg in and out. AccommodationThe students, faculty and staff of the School will be lodged in the Raseborg Institute. Students will share twin rooms with toilets and shower rooms. The lecture hall and the rooms for the discussion sessions are also situated in the institute, which will be equipped with computing and electronic communication facilities. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals will be served in the restaurant of the Institute. There is a bar where participants will be able to purchase drinks in the evenings.
Travel ArrangementsStudents who are selected to attend the School should arrange to arrive in Raseborg for registration during the afternoon or evening of Sunday 20 June. The school will end on the morning of Saturday 3 July after breakfast. The nearest airport is Helsinki Vantaa, about 100 km from Raseborg. There is a railway station at Karjaa (Karis in Swedish), about 8 km from the Institute. More and up-to-date information about train/bus schedules, pick-up service, etc. will be posted in an upcoming announcement.
