How to Apply

Applications to attend the School must include:

  • A completed application form in Indico (web-based)
  • A letter of reference and ranking from the candidate's professor or supervisor

The web-based application form is available from here.

Please read very carefully the conditions for participation and the guidelines given below before filling out the application form.

The applications deadline has been extended to 23 February 2018.

If necessary, use "N/A" for fields that are not applicable.

Conditions for Participation

The School is open to young physicists, preparing a PhD or equivalent in high-energy physics, with at least one year's experience working as experimentalists or phenomenologists. The number of students will be about 100, mostly from the CERN and JINR Member States, but a few may come from other countries which are not members. Personal contacts and informal discussions among the participants during leisure time are an important aspect of the School. For this reason, participants are asked to note that they should not be accompanied by family members or friends.

Guidelines

The application form for the 2018 European School of Physics should be completed and sent as soon as possible. The application includes a 100-word summary of the student's current work that will be taken into consideration in the selection process.

The submission of the completed application form must be accompanied in parallel by a confidential letter of reference and ranking from the student's professor or supervisor (signed and dated with letterhead of referee's institution). The letter should be scanned (in pdf format) and sent by email. Applications without a reference letter will not be considered. The letter should be sent to Kate Ross, the CERN Organizing Administrator (see Enquiries and Correspondence).

Please note that the letter of recommendation from the professor or supervisor should include a ranking of the candidate relative to other students at a similar stage in their careers.

Candidates should ensure that their application form and the letter of reference reach the CERN Organizing Administrator by the specified deadline.

The selection of the students will be made by the International Organizing Committee together with the local director. All applicants will be informed in March 2018 whether or not they have been selected.
